Last day in Salzburg

Our last day was a very wet day, even by Victoria standards. We borrowed the hotel umbrellas because they are much bigger than our little travel ones. We crossed back over the bridge to the old town again to finish our walking tour. There seemed to be more tourists than yesterday or maybe it just seemed that way since they all were carrying umbrellas too - everyone banging into each other.
We searched out the local market but found it had been replaced with all the trucks and kiosks getting ready for Wednesday's St. Rupert's festival start. We did find a smaller street market a few streets over which was fun to browse through.
Cheese cheese and more cheese

The normal yellow arches were not allowed in the old town so McDoanalds had to come up with an appropriate replacement, a Baroque equivalent. Can you spot the Golden Arches on this street in pic above?

A store that just specializes in decorated hollow eggs: Christmas eggs, Easter eggs and we even saw Halloween eggs. This is just one section of the shop - the red and gold row.

Lunch today in a Gasthof ( A pub kinda place). We finally got smart and shared a main dish and a dessert: 3 different Austrian sausages with sauerkraut and potatoes and a huge blob of mustard.
We each had a radler to drink, (1/2 beer and 1/2 lemonade).

Dessert - Sacher torte, a specialty of the area. It is so important to try all the area specialties, especially if made with chocolate!

We decided to get out of the rain so went into the Salzburg Museum especially to see the music exhibit. We had heard about it and it really was interesting. Focusing on old instruments, with videos of a musician playing a piece on each instrument. Some of them quiet odd such as this one stringed trumpet violin below. It is played with a bow but It really did sound like a trumpet!!

Here is a giant bassoon and trombone. Wendy was in her glory, there were even some old recorders. One was a walking stick recorder - dual purpose!!

We have really enjoyed Salzburg. A very pretty old town, lots to see, and lots of nice places to eat. The shops seem to be high-end clothing mixed in with some tourist type stores. Lots of English speaking tourists which we didn't have in Bad Wiessee.  We have decided from what we have seen so far, we quite like Austria.
